Practice Makes Perfect Part 2!
Practice makes perfect is what your means if you do something many times you will learn to do it very well. You can't expect to become a brilliant dog trainer overnight, but practice makes perfect.
I like the quote below;
“I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or to learn to live by practicing living, the principles are the same. In each, it is the performance of a dedicated precise set of acts, physical or intellectual, from which comes shape of achievement, a sense of one's being, a satisfaction of spirit. One becomes, in some area, an athlete of God. Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired.” ― Martha Graham
Look at Ruffy, a 5-yo Male Rescue Norfolk Terrier. Thanks to Pearlene, Ruffy has once again enjoy being love and spoilt. Ruffy is a very timid boy and he freak out at any sound. Today you can see the grow in confidence. See for yourself, Ruffy now no longer worry for the sound of a clicker, but waited expectantly for the rewards. He is now more confident, he can even perform the settle behaviour at different materials and situations.
This will not be possible, if Ruffy and Pearlene did not persist in training. Practice at any given opportunity and you can see how confident and ready is Ruffy eagerly waiting for the cue just to perform the requested behaviour.
Here's another great example. aStar & James has experienced lots of challengers. Not getting aStar to perform at what James wanted, has proven a big challenge to this team. However due to the love for aStar and willingness to work with him, you can see the vast improvement from the team.
Confident, Attentive, Accuracy and Attitude is what you can SEE in this team! To achieve such level of performance, I believed a lot of practice, performance and training has been invested in aStar.
Look at the Distance Control Exercise! Precise, Attentive and Keenness to perform. Without a good history of reinforcement, no team can achieve it.
Regardless of the Size, Age, Sex, Breed of the dog, all you need is PATIENT! And a heart to perseverance. BELIEVE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and PRACTICE ....... You will soon reap the benefits of good consistent training.
Enjoy, have fun & stay positive!
